Greetings:

Has anybody ever used the "battle tender" portion of a battle rider combo to
other uses? This was inspired by a recent episode of Babylon 5 in which it
appeared that a research ship was carried by a larger (jump capable) vehicle.
One could see reserve tenders being put to use in the Imperium to carry
fleets of (cheap) non-jump capable research vehicles. The tender would drop
the research vehicles along a route, then return along the same route to pick
them up.

And if the Imperium ever dumped tenders on the "open market" (drool), maybe a
merchant company could do the same thing with a group of trading vessels.

(Note: For Imperium substitute your favorite large government appropriate for
the era you game in...)

Just a thought.

The 2300 Star Cruiser design rules lists a mass for each drive volume -- a
quick division gives 1.176 tonnes/m^3. I don't have time to look up the
details, but there are other parameters that vary beteen the 2300
stutterwarp and the FF&S stutterwarp.

Actually, I used to be in a campaign where we did something similar to
this. Our party was hired by a merchant company that had a huge J-6
rider (we used to jokingly call it a merchant rider). Individual
shipowners would do runs for the company by going from their ship to
individual worlds.

The big appeal for this was for merchants that had ships that weren't
jump capable. The company was basically paying for the ships to
deliver goods to specific clients. Our jump drive had broken down so
we went to work for these clowns to make money (they paid you per ton
hauled and had bonuses too boot).

The merchant riders were basically jump drive and cargo space. Crew of
the individual ships would bunk on their ships.

Yesterday I posted something about a book titled _Combat Service Support
Guide_. Several people have asked me for the ISBN number, which I
unfortunately forgot to include. I will attempt to bring the book in to work
tomorrow. Sorry for the delay.
